Hibrid – Twisted Tambourine - Released Records

Hibrid – Twisted Tambourine

The Lost Record is a blog that shines a light on records that never made the move to digital (notably Spotify or Apple).  At best these records have a Youtube fan upload.

I moved to Blackpool in summer 89 just as the dance music scene was really taking shape with Shaboo (Later Eureka then Zone) Hacketts, Oz, Loveshack and Sequins having house nights every Friday and Saturday.  Places like Hacketts and Oz also did Thursday nights.  The beauty of these nights was DJs like Sasha, DJ Nipper, Welly and Greenbins played a mixture of styles with hip hop tracks like Young MC – Know How and King Bee – Back by Dope Demand.

Hybrid’s Twisted Tambourine was the standout track from the fast hip hop selection in my opinion.  Big beats, raw energy.  It had so much thrown into the mix but worked so well. Guitar from Jimi Hendrix’s Cross Town traffic, the “Rock the Discotheque” hook from Big Daddy Kane – Set it off,  vocal snippets from Public Enemy – Bring the Noise and Night of the Living Bassheads and probably a few more I’ve missed! I think it only got a limited release before being withdrawn as samples were not cleared.  The b-side Hypnotizin’ will also be more than familiar to anyone going out in the early 90s.

(Great choice Steve – I would love to find out what happened to Doo Lally D – he had a great voice – Ed)

Is this record lost?:  Yes.  It was lost more or less as soon as it was released due to sample clearance.

The Lost Record is the endless search for vinyl tracks not available (at time of publish) on iTunes/Apple Music or Spotify.
