Leena Conquest - Boundaries, Tricky Remix
As with a lot of records I’ve bought over the years this was one I picked up based on a remixer/producer as opposed to for the artist themselves. In this case it was Leena Conquest – Boundaries, Tricky Remix.
Most people will know Tricky for both his time with Massive Attack and his solo career after that which has now spanned over 20 years. I think this came out after he’d only released Aftermath (still his best release in my opinion) and Ponderosa.
Leena Conquest’s original version is a great track. From her laid back vocals to the lyrics (which are probably even more relevant now) over a nice looped funky groove taken from the Average White Band’s 'Stop The Rain'. The original isn’t a lost record but even if it was I prefer the Tricky mix. His remix starts with a nice looped melody then kicks in with a tougher beat. It fits nicely with a lot of the other trip hop I was listening to at the time from Massive Attack, Portishead and labels like Mo’ Wax and Ninja Tune.
Just Googling around this track I didn't realise MC Mello had released so much music on this label. Also it was Rodney Hunter's 1st production - Editors Note.
Is this record lost? Yes.
